Da die beste Frau der Welt krank im Bett liegt und starke Halsschmerzen sowie Fieber hat, habe ich mit den Kindern heute einen Ausflug in den Zürcher Zoo gemacht und einerseits der Frau etwas Ruhe zu gönnen, und anderseits weil ich dachte bei dem etwas grauen, kalten Wetter heute morgen und unter der Woche noch dazu, wäre es etwas leerer. Mit letzerem lag ich leider falsch, aber es war trotzdem ein sehr schöner Tag, den durch so eine Jahreskarte geht man ja auch wirklich sehr entspannt daran und bleibt auch gerne lange bei “unspektakulären” Tieren stehen wo weniger los ist. Nur in die Masoala Halle wollte ich am Schluss noch sehr gerne, um mein Makro Objektiv auszuprobieren, aber ich hatte mir das zwar wieder sehr schön ausgemalt aber in der Planung irgendwie die Kinder ignoriert. So musste ich während des fotografierens ein kleines Kind auf meinem Schoss balancieren, das zudem ständig nach der Kamera griff. Ich habe also nur in der Masoala Halle überhaupt mir die Mühe gemacht die Kamera rauszuholen und es sind insgesamt ca 20 scharfe Bilder herausgekommen, bei denen das Motiv auch auf dem Bild zu sehen ist. Aber von diesen 20 sind in der Tat ein paar schöne Glückstreffer herausgekommen, auch wenn alles mit semi-Automatik fotografiert wurde und der Lerneffekt sich deshalb sehr in Grenzen hielt. Jedenfalls sei hiermit jedem der in Zürich weilt, sei es als Tourist oder wohnenderweise,  der Zürcher Zoo ans Herz gelegt, denn ich habe selten einen Zoo erlebt der so radikal und so schnell alle seine Gehege nach und nach modernisiert und Tiergerecht gestaltet, so dass es wirklich immer eine wahre Freude ist dort zu Besuch zu sein.

With the best wife of the world lying sick in bed with a painful sore throat and fever, I made a trip to the Zurich Zoo to offer her some quiet time, thinking that during the week and with the weather being rather cold there wouldn’t be too many visitors. While I was wrong about the last bit, this wasn’t too much of an issue because due to our annual pass we don’t mind looking at the “less spectacular” animals for hours on end. The only thing I really wanted to see was the Masoala Hall, because I wanted to try my Macro lens on some of the geckos and chameleons. Unfortunately I had forgotten the children in the planning. So in real life I was balancing the hobbit on one leg, while trying to take a picture with him constantly grabbing the camera. So I only bothered to even try and take pictures in the Masoala Hall and in the end only about 20 shots were in focus or had an animal in the picture. But still, of these 20 pictures some turned out quite nicely thanks to semi-automatic features making photography fool (or childs-) proof (still the desired learning effect from manual photography that I was hoping for was nonexistent today).

Anyways, to every person who is in Zurich, be it as a tourist or resident, the Zurich Zoo should be highly recommended because I rarely ever experienced a zoo, which is as rapidly developing and turning all of its cages into modern habitats for the animals as this one, making it always a great pleasure to stroll around the area.
