To blog or not to blog

Part of yesterdays decision-making process regarding the blog: a list! And apparently, our daughter comes after me and likes writing lists too.

Here we go…

Soooo…this is the first blog entry.

I have been thinking about writing a blog for quite some time now, but I could never really make the decision to start. During my pregnancy, I started browsing the internet for pregnancy blogs, and after the little one was born, I was looking for blogs from young families. Because I thought it helps if you read that there are people out there who face the same challenges. If you haven’t noticed it, there are all kind of family blogs out there….I found one where the mother meticulously photographs and documents every single present and piece of clothing that her daughter receives. I am not going to do that.

I also found a lot of blogs from super mums – with a job, several kids, never tired or frustrated and with enough time to do lots and lots of creative stuff as well. That’s when I started to feel a bit bad. I admit: our flat is not always clean. I try to cook a fresh meal every day, but sometimes it’s just good old pizza or spaghetti with cheese. And all the creative things…well, I am always wondering what the children are doing during that time. Are they sitting on the floor, admiring their mother while being completely silent and immobile? Because mine wouldn’t do that.

Still, I consider myself as fairly creative. And although we still have to get used to go on trips with a small baby and therefore we are not as active as normal, we DO stuff! Every now and then. How else would you explain that we are in Finland right now, in the middle of the winter, for 10 weeks?

I still have several blogs that I like to read. They kind of inspire me, make me laugh or just show me how things can be done (or not) as a family. Also, it is much easier to quickly read a blog entry over your morning coffee than to concentrate on a newspaper article (as much as I would love to do the latter).

And I thought it would be fun to write a blog myself. Not because I think of our life as so important that it has to be spread out to the world. But because I do not like to post too many things on Facebook, yet I would love to formulate some of our experiences and thoughts for our friends (and myself). And hopefully that will not end in a one-way-communication but we will continue to receive emails as well… (a broad hint).

Regarding the names: I noticed that in most of the blogs, the names are very cryptic due to privacy reasons. And cheesy. So how should I call my husband? Darling? Babe? Lovemuffin? Morning dew? Naah, I will go with something completely crazy. I will call him Karsten!
